I am writing this as a long time citizen of Torrance, this is regarding my support for item 13A on the May 6
th
agenda. It is for the RC race track at El Nido Park.
The RC track at El Nido park has become a big part of many families throughout the city. Having been there many times with my husband, brother in law, son in law and many more of my family. El Nido RC track is not only important to grownups, you see so many kids there enjoying it. Learning so many hands on experiences, building hand eye coordination, offers social interaction, develops patience and persistence, just a few of the things.
I am hoping you will continue honoring the lease with the city. There are so many people in the community that have put so much time, effort and money into the upkeep and maintenance on the track

Dear City Council,
I have put in more than 5,000 hrs to this project and surrounding park areas. Many different things have been said over the past 8 years that couldn't be farther from the truth. There are so many issues I would like to discuss but I will try to keep things short. Park services have complained about us making it harder for them to do their job and about trimming the hedges. In which I have trimmed 5 times and have only seen the city do it once. This area of the park was 6ft high weeds and overgrown dead ice plants over the fence and into the park area. City trucks constantly drive across grass and dirt and track it all over the walkways and basketball court and we are used as a scapegoat. City employees have stolen 3 100' hoses from us then took a razor blade to another 2 of them. I have requested 3 times for the one spigot for recreation/horseshoe pit be fixed from when a city truck backed into it. So many more issues to speak about including multiple shady things John La Rock has done on behalf of the city negotiating with our license agreement but I have to send this before 5pm. Attachments/photos combined to 1 screen shot because files are too big.
We have held back all negativity because this project is not about that! But at some point some things need a light shined upon them. All I have been asking is to "work with us." Look forward to getting things straightened out!

Honorable Members of the Torrance City Council,
As the former vice president of the South Bay Black Sheep RC Inc (SBBSRC) , I would first like to express my sincere gratitude for allowing SBBSRC to build a radio-controlled racetrack at El Nido Park. I drive by the track everyday and see it being utilized by families, children, adults, people with disabilities, and seniors alike. The one universal truth among all groups is a big smile and a sense of community!
As you may know, the RC track only survives through the many volunteers and patrons that donate their time and resources. More than ten thousand dollars has been spent on its upkeep, safety features, insurance and that does not include the thousands of volunteer hours given unselfishly. Our community of RC enthusiasts (over 100 registered members) have been great stewards of the park property by scheduling routine clean-up days, regularly sweeping the nearby basketball court, clearing fallen trees and branches after big storms and abating the unhoused from inhabiting that portion of the park. Win- Win!
Unfortunately, after signing the agreement, SBBSRC has been unable to advance the tracks safety, boundary, or signage. As the former VP of SBBSRC, I started sending emails to the City (point of contact:
John LaRock) starting on February 9th 2021, requesting direction on the fence, boundaries, water, signage, etc. It has been more than 4 years since SBBCRC requested clarification on these vital details and to this day, SBBRC has received no written clarification or amendments to the agreement.

It is certainly my hope to see this beautiful RC track remain a vibrant park of Torrance parks well into the future. We constantly hear rumors from City employees, that state, “we are about to Bulldoze the track” and that would be a crying shame!
Sincerely,
Art Hulscher

To whom it may concern,
I would respectfully request that the city of Torrance can consider to leave the El Nido RC track open.
This track has provided a fun, friendly and safe environment that has brought together a community of enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. This provides us with a way to connect with others in the community and gives us a healthy outdoor alternative that fosters teamwork, collaboration and even teaches some a fun hobby they may not have known of before. It is always a welcoming environment where everyone is friendly and respectful.
Thank you.

My kid, my family, many friends, and I are in support of the RC park at El Nido Park.
This is beneficial for the kids and family. It brings a bond and interests in hobbies and projects that help improve STEM education and topics as such. It an improvement to development and stems interest that may push further interest in beneficial future endeavers such as EVs etc.
It's also a factor in limiting screen time and other potential non beneficial habits.
We truly hope the city continues to support and invest in the space.
Thanks you.

Dear City of Torrance Council,
I’m writing as a concerned member of the community to express my strong support for preserving the El Nido RC Track located off Kingsdale Ave.
This space has become far more than just a place to race—it is a vital hub for hobbyists, families, friends, and the youth who benefit from safe, fun, and friendly recreation.
El Nido RC Track provides a unique opportunity for the community of all ages to engage in a positive and sportsmanship experience.
Closing or repurposing the RC track would be a significant loss to our community. Instead, I urge the city to explore ways to support and enhance this space, ensuring it remains a welcoming environment for current users and future generations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope we can keep this track thriving and continuing to welcome RC enthusiasts from diverse ethnicities and ages.
All my best,
Gaby C.

Greetings City Council Members,
I am sending this email to let you know that I hope to continue using the El Nido Park RC track well into the future. I feel it's of great benefit to the city and South Bay community of which we are all members.
I've been using it regularly for the last 2.5 years and have greatly enjoyed my time there. We all live in an area that's somewhat congested and outdoor activities such as this can be hard to find and difficult to travel to. The RC track at El Nido helps the community to overcome those problems by providing an outdoor space to RC enthusiasts that's close to home. I've made several acquaintances at the park and I believe strongly that it is a great place to build a stronger sense of community.
Sincerely,
Christopher Cahow

Dear City Council Members,
I’m writing to express my strong support for the RC park at El Nido Park, as referenced in Item 13A on the May 6th agenda.
The El Nido RC track has become a meaningful part of my family’s life. It’s not just a place to play with remote control cars—it’s where my son and I get to bond, laugh, and learn together. It’s given us an excuse to dive into STEM topics like electronics, mechanics, and physics in a hands-on, fun, and engaging way.
The recent upgrades, including fencing and surface grading, clearly reflect the community’s dedication to maintaining and improving this facility. It’s rare to find spaces that combine recreation with real educational value, and the El Nido RC park does exactly that.
I truly hope the city continues to support and invest in this space. We’re eager to collaborate with the parks department and city officials to ensure it remains available for everyone in the community.

Hi. Me and my family love the RC track at El Nido park. I was told that city council is considering removing the track after all the hard work those young boys put into it.
I think that is just awful if the city is really pulling the rug out from under their feet. It's rare that I see anyone do anything these days. please encourage this group of people to keep working and having fun on their rc track.
Thank you

Thank you for allowing the lease for the RC park in El Nido Park. Everyone loves it.
The recent renovations including fence and surface grading show the dedication from the community to support this facility.
Our facebook page "El Nido RC Racers" has 800 active participants and we are motivated to do whatever it takes to support our city council people that support our community.
We want to work with the parks dept and city council to meet all requirements for continued use of the park.

Hello i believe the lease is a good idea people need places to go an do the things they like this will also keep them from going into parks like Columbia Park an tearing up the grass which i have witnessed a few times. Also we need the dog park which Columbia Park has the ideal spot for dogs on tge northside of the park paralell to Magruder middle school. Some fencing already exists so it would be mininal work and exspense because alot of fencing is there an not many people go to that side so please consider it an go look at it
