RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation of the Finance Director and Acting Chief of Police that City Council approve the proposed program modification in the Police Department’s fiscal year 2025 -26 General Fund operating budget in the amount of $420,984.
FUNDING
Funding is available in the following fiscal year 2025-26 operating budget and is anticipated to be available in subsequent fiscal years.
DISCUSSION
The Police department is requesting to add a 1.0 full-time equivalent Police Commander position with effort to implement and comply with anticipated Department of Justice (DOJ) recommendations to enhance organizational efficiencies. This position will oversee the integration of state -mandated police practices, ensure reporting and transparency measures are met, mitigate liability related to civil rights violations, ensure adherence to AB 953 (Racial and Identify Profiling Act), and lead procedural justice initiatives. Concurrently, Staff is seeking approval of this new class specification from City Council under a separate item.
