A notable issue that I would like to see addressed is the limited run times of the local transit system. I have noticed a disturbing trend of route times starting late, being cut short, or not running at all in some cases.
Public transportation is incredibly valuable to a cities population.
When done correctly, it reduces road occupancy, travel times for everyone, and the likelihood of accidents, while also promoting things such as community, local businesses, as well as personal freedoms and safety.
Having the bus lines running 24/7 means that people will be free to travel without feeling trapped or lost, as they will always be able to find their way home.
Just recently, I ran into my own struggle of being trapped in the City of Los Angeles on a Saturday night as the bus service shut down before I could get home. Situations like this turn something as simple as a missed bus into a question of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep in your own bed at night.
While I would much prefer that Torrance transitions over towards a light rail network, for many reasons but highly of which is that it is much more fiscally sustainable, I would really like to see a higher priority being placed on connecting the community with a focus on making the city more walkable, dense, hospitable, and local.
