TORRANCE CITY COUNCIL MEETING - APRIL 7, 2026
8D
ICAN is a nonprofit organization that provides quality employment, life skills, and social programs for Southern California’s adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities.

We have locations in Torrance, Long Beach, and Redondo Beach, California.

ABOUT ICAN

&

MISSION
VISION

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to empower people with disabilities to
discover and achieve their own "I CAN" statement.

OUR VISION
Our vision is a world where individuals with disabilities are given the opportunity to live, work, and learn
through the programs and services of their choice.

ICAN Coffee has been a valued part of the South Bay community for years, creating meaningful, paid employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities while fostering strong connections through local events and partnerships. Through its mobile coffee carts and newly launched coffee shop, clients gain hands-on experience preparing beverages, serving customers, and managing transactions—while developing confidence, independence, and essential workplace skills.

Establishing a permanent location at the Torrance Library presents an exciting opportunity for ICAN to extend its community impact, increase awareness of its mission, and expand employment pathways for individuals with disabilities.

This partnership with the City of Torrance will provide consistent, hands-on job training in an inclusive, supportive environment, while offering city staff and community members a welcoming space to connect over coffee. More than a coffee shop, it represents an investment in inclusion, workforce development, and a more connected Torrance community.

ICAN COFFEE

BUILDING THE SHOP
ICAN partnered with DaVinci High School’s Architecture and Civil Engineering students to build this new coffee shop. The structure of this shop was completed by the students and then went to a commissary for all the proper plumbing and equipment installations for health department approvals.

ICAN COFFEE SHOP FEATURES
Storage
Everything is self contained &
locks up at the end of the day.

Power Source
The shop runs primarily on
solar and battery power.

Plumbing
The shop uses a tank system
and we have a MSU Mobile
Support unit approved water
truck that replenishes the
cart weekly.

LOCATION AT

TORRANCE LIBRARY
ICAN Coffee will be located near the library entrance
and farther from the street, helping reduce street
noise for both staff and patrons.
