1 RESOLUTION NO. 2026-69
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA, HONORING
COUNCILMEMBER JON KAJI FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF
DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, Jon Kaji was first elected to the City Council to represent District 1 on June 7, 2022; and
WHEREAS, upon taking office , he brought with him years of experience in economic development and international relations having served as the Commissioner for the State of California Commission for Economic Development and as a member of the County of Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation . His work in international business relations and economic development provided valuable experience that guided his efforts to advance similar initiatives in Torrance; and WHEREAS, during his tenur e on City Council, he served as the chair for the Finance and Governmental Operations Committee advocating for policies that support ed a strong local economy while monitoring City revenue and spending. He also served as a committee member for the Employee Relations and Public Safety Committee, Ad Hoc Naming of Public Facilities Committee, Armed Forces Day Committee, Federal and State Legislative Committee and the Strategic Plan Committee; and WHEREAS, Councilmember Kaji remained committed to improving the quality of life for Torrance residents through major community projects, including improvements to Guenser Park and the construction of a World War II Japanese American Incarceration Memorial Monument at Columbia Park . He similarly supported cultural initiatives that enhanced Torrance's sense of place and elevated its regional profile, including the Robert Vargas’s Samurai of the Diamond mural; and WHEREAS, his dedication to Torrance extended beyond his role as a councilmember, serving as the City’s representative on the South Bay Cities Council of Governments , where he worked collaboratively with neighboring jurisdictions to address regional issues, and on the Metro South Bay Service Council; and WHEREAS, Councilmember Kaji distinguished himself through his advocacy for policies and projects that promoted economic development , strengthened legislative partnerships, and enhanced Torrance’s international presence; and WHEREAS, as a long-time resident of Torrance , Councilmember Kaji has remained deeply invested in the well -being of the community . Through his many contributions, he has helped shape a stronger future for Torrance.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Torrance, does herby commend and honor
COUNCILMEMBER JON KAJI
for his many years of dedicated service to the community.
