DISCUSSION
The Youth Council has been hosting an annual workshop for its members since 1995. This workshop helps us to introduce members to one another and to learn about the Youth Council.
Initially, the annual workshop was held at the City Hall West Annex Commission Room. However, in 1999, several Youth Council members suggested changing the location and holding the workshop at a more relaxed and casual venue. The members selected THE ATTIC as the workshop location, where new and returning members could mingle and become familiar with the Teen Center’s facility and its programs. It also gave the Youth Council the opportunity to meet and collaborate with the ATTIC Advisory Committee.
The ATTIC Advisory Committee is comprised of youth from each of the Torrance high schools as well as California Academy of Math and Science (CAMS). The Committee advises THE ATTIC staff on matters of interest to high school students, including programs, activities, and events.
The Youth Council would again like to conduct their workshop for 2026-2027 Youth Council members at THE ATTIC on Monday, August 17, 2026. No official business is conducted or approved. The workshop includes activities, a tour of THE ATTIC Teen Center, and introductions of members, ice breaker games, leadership activities and discussions, and discussion of potential goals for the upcoming year.

In recommending the annual workshop at THE ATTIC, the Youth Council members, Youth Council staff liaison, Attic Advisor Committee, and Recreation staff believe this provides members with an opportunity to acclimate to the facility, as well as help promote programs and events held at THE ATTIC.
