Dear City Councilmembers,

I strongly recommend Arohi Sharma for District 4 City Council appointment.

You have read her application and resume. Each of you know her well. There is little I can say that hasn’t been said. However, that has rarely stopped me from saying things.

Arohi commands a room with skill and grace. On the Traffic Commission, she has faced a room full of concerned (some furious) residents and guided the conversation to a productive and positive space while making sure everyone felt heard. She is consistently efficient, effective, and empathetic regardless of the space she’s in. When called on to speak or serve, she doesn’t merely show up, she comes prepared. I have watched her seek input, debate ideas, and think deeply about the challenges and opportunities placed before her. Arohi possesses state and national political expertise paired with the persistence and collaborative nature necessary to wield that expertise.

My family is inspired by the newfound cohesion on the council, and we believe that cohesion can be strengthened by Arohi’s ideas for economic development, community building, and public safety. As Torrance expands and welcomes thousands of new residents, I urge the Council to appoint someone who can relate to the lived experience of young professionals and families planning in this uncertain future. As a renter, she can offer a perspective that is shared by 44% of the Torrance population. Fair and balanced leadership requires that the realities of all residents be felt and understood at the dais.

I believe that when someone with talent, passion and skill leads with their heart, amazing things can happen. If you have had the opportunity to receive an Arohi hug, you know that she leads with empathy and brings the necessary experience and drive to back it up. Do not mistake kindness for a lack of strength. Arohi combines empathy with a formidable, tenacious, and effective work ethic.

This is a weighty decision. I can only imagine the volume and diversity of perspectives you are hearing. Thank you for your consideration and all you do for the place my family calls home.

I wish you all peace, wisdom, and joy as you each make your choice.

Dear Mayor Kalani and Members of the City Council,
I am writing as a Torrance resident to enthusiastically recommend Arohi Sharma for the appointment to the vacant District 4 City Council seat. I served alongside Arohi on the Torrance Traffic Commission, and I have experienced firsthand her exceptional attention to detail, meticulous preparation, and data-driven approach to complex local issues. She is a self described data nerd, and we need that. She possesses the exact combination of civic experience and pragmatic problem- solving that District 4 needs.

During our time serving together, Arohi consistently demonstrated the ability to parse dense municipal codes, work collaboratively with city staff, and break down complex infrastructure challenges into actionable solutions. She never arrived at a meeting unprepared and always relied on objective data to make decisions. As Arohi has rightly noted, "potholes and policy have a lot in common: Nobody notices until something breaks." Her proactive, analytical mindset is exactly what our city requires to stay ahead of infrastructure maintenance and public safety needs.

Furthermore, Arohi would bring two much-needed, diverse structural perspectives to the current council dais. As a younger working professional and a renter, she represents two vital demographics - our active workforce and Torrance's tenant community - that are currently underrepresented among existing council members. Her firsthand understanding of the economic realities facing younger residents and renters will be invaluable as the city balances smart growth, housing mandates, and economic modernization. She is keenly aware that you don't need to destroy Single Family Housing to increase housing - there are plenty of opportunities for rezoning unused commercial properties.

Torrance is a changing city. To preserve our high quality of life while successfully modernizing our local economy, we need a council member who is practical, data-minded, and ready to work on day one. Having worked side-by-side with her, I can guarantee that Arohi Sharma has the institutional knowledge, unique perspective, and local savvy required to hit the ground running.

I strongly urge the City Council to appoint Arohi Sharma to the District 4 seat during tomorrow evening's meeting. Thank you for your continued dedication, leadership, and service to the City of Torrance.

Sincerely,

Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
I am writing as a resident of District 3 and a newly appointed City Commissioner to express my strong support for Arohi Sharma's appointment to the vacant District 4 City Council seat ahead of your decision on Tuesday, August 25.

Over the time I have known Arohi, her dedication to public service and community well-being has stood out remarkably. Since 2021, she has been deeply involved in the City of Torrance, consistently showing up for our community. Whether serving as a Torrance Traffic Commissioner or working in her professional role as Deputy Director, Arohi has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and an unwavering commitment to moving Torrance (and California) forward.

Her energy, enthusiasm, and genuine dedication to local civic issues were a primary inspiration for my own decision to interview and serve as a Commissioner. Arohi doesn't just participate in local governance; she empowers others to pull up a chair to the table, making local democracy accessible and collaborative.

Arohi brings a high level of professionalism, fresh momentum, and a collaborative mindset, making her exceptionally qualified to partner with the newly elected Mayor and the full Council. I am confident she will be a dynamic team player in leading Torrance toward a bright, sustainable future.

I urge you to appoint Arohi Sharma to represent District 4.

Thank you for your leadership, time, and service to our city.

Sincerely,
Pascale Cardozo
