Important: My Response to Carrie Peyton-Dahlberg on Lost Coast Outpost and Facebook From Anita <[email protected]>
Date Mon 3/9/2026 2:10 PM
To Cityclerk Trinidad <[email protected]>
Cc Citymanager Trinidad <[email protected]>; Ckelly Trinidad <[email protected]>; Kati Breckenridge <[email protected]>; Jtuttle Trinidad <[email protected]>; Acather Trinidad <[email protected]>; Trever Parker <[email protected]>; Ahakenen Trinidad <[email protected]>; John Waskiewicz <[email protected]>; B Kenny <[email protected]>; Asouza Trinidad <[email protected]> I’m a Trinidad water customer and I also read “The Lost Coast Outpost’ every day. Carrie Peyton-Dahlberg’s piece is both confusing and disappointing. I’m not sure what her goal was, her statements are disorganized, inaccurate, sarcastic and some statements are obviously political. It is important to clarify that the “…rainy January morning” that she refers to was not just another rainy morning but instead Trinidad and Humboldt County experienced a severe storm, with heavy rain and fierce wind gusts. Our outstanding Trinidad team worked nonstop in very dangerous conditions and continued to work for two weeks with no sleep or hardly any sleep at all. Our Trinidad team cares about their community and demonstrates their care through their dedication, expertise and hard work.

Carrie Peyton-Dahlberg’s states, “Both of Trinidad’s water tanks, with a combined capacity of 400,000 gallons, had drained away. That level of detail was missing from the presentation given to the Trinidad City Council on Jan. 13, during its first meeting after the water leak.” This is an inaccurate statement; City Manager Adams communicated this information as well as all other important emergency water information from the start of our emergency on January 3rd to the January 13th City Council meeting. During the first couple of weeks of our water emergency, communications were ongoing and water customers were notified and updated throughout the day. City Council members and staff walked around door to door and communicated with water customers emergency information. These proactive measures were carried out in case water customers did not have access to the City website or emails. At the January 13th City Council meeting, experts, management and all parties involved, were in attendance to discuss the details of our water emergency. It was a transparent and informative agenda item which included questions and answers by the Council and public. As a Trinidad water customer, I am impressed with how the City of Trinidad dealt with our water emergency.

Free speech, inclusivity and due process
From paula levine <[email protected]>

To Cityclerk Trinidad <[email protected]>
The CC has the right to free speech in weighing in on political issues.

I hope the community supports the City Council's commitment to inclusivity and support for due process in immigration enforcement. It is worded perfectly- simply and to the point.

Thanks,
Paula Levine

Trinidad City Council Inclusivity resolution: 2026-02
From Ted Pease <[email protected]>
Date Tue 3/10/2026 3:02 PM
To Ckelly Trinidad <[email protected]>; B Kenny <[email protected]>; Jtuttle Trinidad <[email protected]>; Kati Breckenridge <[email protected]> Cc Cityclerk Trinidad <[email protected]>; Tina Freeland <[email protected]> Dear City Council (apologies, John: I don’t have your email address):

We would like to voice our support for Resolution 2026-02, “Affirming Trinidad’s Commitment to Inclusivity and Support for Due Process in Immigration Enforcement.” As the title of the resolution states, the proposed measure simply affirms constituional rights and privileges accorded to all.

Already, Humboldt County and the cities of Eureka and Arcata are declared as sanctuaries for protection of immigrants’ rights. This resolution does not make Trinidad a sanctuary city (although as part of Humboldt County it arguably already is); the resolution simply says that the City “values the diversity, talents, and contributions of those who live in, work in, and visit our community.” This certainly is true.

For that reason, the resolution says, all persons in Trinidad “are entitled to dignity, equal protection, and respectful treatment,” and the City “shall endeavor to remain a welcoming and inclusive community for all residents and visitors.” This also is certainly true.

We would like to echo the sentiments of Tina Freeland, organizer of Indivisible Trinidad (which now has 100 members). While Trinidad has no power over federal immigration laws or enforcement, Tina said, “We believe that we as caring humans have an obligation to state strongly and loudly our support for all people, regardless of race, nationality, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.” Further, she said, “Democracy is founded on principles of equality and justice for all. As citizens who embrace these values, Indivisible Trinidad endorses this nonpartisan, apolitical resolution. We feel it is a necessary statement honoring our city’s commitment to all people in our community, and rightly pledging our support for the rule of law.”
We urge adoption of this resolution.

Sincerely,
Brenda Cooper & Ted Pease
