To the Truckee Town Council:

7.3 My name is Jeff Lennan and I live in Truckee. I'm writing to you in support of building a new Truckee Library and putting the bond measure on the ballot this November. I believe that the new library - and also the campaign to approve it - will be good for our community now and long into the future.

My wife and I are deeply committed to this community and we believe building a new library can make it stronger. From youth literacy and workforce development programs to a gathering place for all ages and an emergency resource for times of shared community challenges like wildfires and winter storms, the new library will serve as a center for community -building for generations to come.

I also happen to have a fair amount of experience with local bond measure campaigns to fund libraries. In 2004, I co-founded a political consulting firm that specialized in ballot measures and public funding campaigns. Our team has helped pass nearly a dozen library bond measures in cities and counties in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

I'm retiring this year, and when I was introduced to The Friends of the Truckee Library, I was excited to volunteer my time and any expertise I have to help pass a potential bond measure. For the last few months, I've participated in the early stages of planning and I've evaluated the campaign's strategy and capacity and the playing field on which it will need to operate in order to succeed.

In my professional opinion, if this bond makes it to the ballot this November, it will pass. I don't say this because of a gut feeling. I say it because I feel strongly that a well organized Yes campaign focused on systematic voter identification and voter turnout will succeed here. I have not only seen this strategy win the day in similar circumstances, but I have been involved in making it happen and I am committed to rolling up my sleeves and helping make sure we do what it takes to win this campaign.

You will not regret voting to support putting the library bond on the ballot this November. The new Truckee Library facility and its programs will provide real and lasting benefits that will be clear and measurable for the community and for stakeholders like the Town Council.
