Agenda Title: Tulare County LAFCO Representative Selection
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Select a councilmember to be considered to serve as the large city representative on the Tulare County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) for a term ending May 2028.
SUMMARY
The Tulare County City Selection Committee was established by virtue of Government Code section 50270 et seq, for the purpose of appointing representatives to boards, commissions, and agencies as required by law. Each mayor of the incorporated cities within Tulare County serves on the City Selection Committee.
The Tulare County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) is composed of two county supervisors selected by the Board of Supervisors, two city council representatives selected by a majority of the mayors in the county (City Selection Committee); and one public member selected by the other four members. The two city council representatives are separated into two categories: large city representative (Visalia, Tulare, and Porterville) and small city representative (all other incorporated cities in Tulare County). The current large city representative is Visalia Councilmember Liz Wynn whose term is expiring.
The City Selection Committee is meeting on Wednesday, March 20. The Committee will be appointing a large city representative to LAFCO. It is the City of Tulare’s turn in the rotation to select a councilmember to be considered for appointment to LAFCO. If all councilmember’s decline to serve, the next large city in the rotation will provide a selection from their membership.
LAFCO regular meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 2 p.m. at the Tulare County Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 2800 W. Burrel Avenue in Visalia.
Currently, meetings are scheduled on an “as needed” basis.
