COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR TULELAKE BASIN JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT UPDATE No representatives came to give an update.

APPROVAL TO RAISE THE ACADEMY EMPLOYEE BASE RATE, CURRENTLY SET AT $15.00 PER HOUR Chief of Police, Tony Ross brought up an item that he had previously discussed during Department Head Updates at the previous meeting about wanting to raise the base rate of pay for a person going through an academy from $15.00 per hour to $21.90 per hour or the same rate of pay as our currently employed officers. Many in the Council expressed their concerns regarding the potential loss in morale or increase in discontent among currently employed officers that would stem from them giving this benefit to a would-be employee. They believed that the increase would not be fair in comparison that the same benefit was not offered to the current employees but did acknowledge that the cost of living has increased by an inflammatory amount and that the need to increase the base pay is needed to incentivize officers to remain in Tulelake. Thereby, Mayor Pro Tem Velador made a motion to increase the base pay rate from $15.00 to $18.00 for academy employees and then to be raised again to $21.90 once they have completed the academy course. Council Member Hendricks seconded the motion. All Votes were Ayes. Motion carried. (Motion 22-130)
