County Government Wants Your Input on a Budget It Won’t Show You https://voiceofoc.org/2026/09/mavrovouniotis-county-government-wants-your-input-on-a-budget-it-wontshow-you/ Orange County has opened a public comment period on its next five-year financial plan. But it has not opened its books. The OC budget is thick in paper and theatrical outreach, but thin on substance.

The city contracts with Orange County Animal Care. Does it not bother you that its budget is so opaque? If you have any doubts, just look at the Los Angeles County budget for Animal Care and Control. Go to https://ceo.lacounty.gov/budget/ scroll down and download Volume I. On pages 54-58 (marked as 6.1-

6.5 in the document) you get a lot more detail than in Orange County. It has about ten times as much information, including breaking down revenue and expenses into detailed categories.
