My family lives and serves here, and I have seen firsthand the positive role a healthy congregation can play in a community. Mariners has a long history of serving communities throughout Orange County, and I believe its presence in Tustin could provide benefits that extend well beyond those who attend its services. Churches contribute to their communities in many practical ways. They provide volunteers, financial assistance, food and meals for families in need, mentoring and youth programs, and support for foster and adoptive families. They can also provide meeting space for recovery groups, scouting programs, classes, blood drives, and community organizations. Perhaps just as importantly, churches can serve as a dependable network during times of crisis. Congregations are often able to mobilize quickly to provide meals, supplies, financial assistance, and volunteers when individuals or families experience hardship. Church communities also bring people together across generations and backgrounds. In a time when many people experience increasing isolation, having a place where families, young people, older adults, and neighbors regularly connect can strengthen the broader community. The greatest value comes when a church sees itself not simply as a place for Sunday worship, but as a neighbor. That means asking what the community needs and partnering with local schools, nonprofits, first responders, other churches, and city leaders to meet those needs. I am confident Mariners intends to approach Tustin in that spirit. A congregation committed to serving its neighbors can become a valuable, long-term partner to the city and its residents. For these reasons, I respectfully encourage the City Council to welcome and support Mariners Church as it considers establishing a campus in Tustin. Thank you for your service to our community and for considering my perspective. Dan Lindburg View and Analyze eComments
