Appointments to Boards/Commissions/Committees are made by the Mayor with approval of the City Council.

The interest of the City is served best by actual and regular participation by Board and Commission members. As such, Union City Municipal Code (UCMC Section 2.20.040) states that if a commissioner is absent from three consecutive meetings without a valid excuse, their appointment to the commission will be automatically terminated. (UCMC Section 2.20.040(B).) Additionally, failure to attend at least 75% of all scheduled meetings in any twelve consecutive month period without a valid excuse, will result in termination of the appointment. (UCMC Section 2.20.040(B).)
Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and will remain valid 1 year from the date of submission. If you are selected to serve on a Board or Commission, you may be required to file an Annual Statement of Economic Interest (FPPC Form 700) and complete bi-annual Ethics Training (AB1234). Failure to complete AB 1234 training will result in termination of seat.

Transportation Engineer Caltrans May 2022-Present
 Perform operational studies of highways, freeways, interchanges, local streets, and intersections.  Prepare lane closure recommendations for construction projects, including the development of alternate route plans for detours.
 Develop/prepare Traffic Management Plan (TMP) strategies, checklists, reports, and deliverables for capital outlay, maintenance, and local funded projects.

Civil Design Engineer BKF Engineers September 2021-May 2022  Design ADA curb ramps for commercial and residential projects along the Peninsula.  Asist multiple managers with their workloads that required calculating drainage management areas and grading out commercial projects.

Civil Design Engineer Lea & Braze Engineering June 2019-August 2021  Use Civil 3D to design site grading, drainage, utility alignments, and hydraulic calculations for projects in different cities across the Bay Area and Los Angeles.  Coordinate with Architects, Landscape Architects, clients, and construction team to help push the project along effectively and efficiently.
 Mentor and supervise a civil engineer to teach them how to accomplish tasks per industry standards.
 Field inspections to review existing conditions, installed improvements, and coordination with contractors.

Civil Engineer Intern San Francisco International Airport May 2018-August 2018  Assisted in plan development of FAA and federally funded projects that seek to upgrade San Francisco International Airport infrastructure and runway paving.  Modified technical specifications for outgoing contracts and developed contract cost estimates.  Worked with CAD software for design-bid projects and reviewed simulations for drainage, aircraft, and transportation projects.

 Inspect existing properties across the Bay Area and create Existing and Proposed Floor Plans for the designated client needs.

1. Why do you want to be a member of a Board/Commission/Commiee? What do you feel you could contribute?
I was raised in Union City and I care about maintaining the things that make Union City a great place to live. I believe I can make a posi"ve impact for Union City by using my background in economics on the Planning Commission. During my work experience with the Board of Equaliza"on and U.S. Bureau of Labor Sta"s"cs, I’ve developed the research, analy"cal and communica"on skills needed to be on the Planning Commission.

2. What qualifies you for this appointment?
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UC Berkeley a/er transferring from Chabot College. I was a sales tax collector with the State of California. I interacted with owners of several different types of industries and business sizes. These interac"ons helped give me a new perspec"ve on the challenges faced by business owners, par"cularly small business owners.

For the past 8 years, I have worked with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Sta"s"cs as an economist with the Na"onal Compensa"on Survey division which produces data for the Employment Cost Index and the Occupa"onal Requirements Survey. I believe knowledge of economic principles, data analysis and labor market trends can be u"lized on the Planning Commission to promote Union City’s economic growth and community development.

3. What is your vision for the commiee/commission to which you are applying? As a member of the Planning Commission, I hope to help Union City con"nue to be a vibrant community. The Planning Commission plays an important advisory role to the City Council. The housing shortage, climate change, efficient use of land, fiscal health and infrastructure are some of the important issues facing not just Union City but many other parts of the country. I hope I can make a posi"ve contribu"on working alongside the other commissioners, city staff, City Council, local business and residents to address these issues.

As a JLHS graduate, I was very involved as leader, serving as the ASB President for the Class of 2002. Since returning to Union City as a homeowner & parent of 2 children soon to attend NHUSD, I offer my devotion to the community & desire to be a good model of civic engagement & enrichment for them.

I am a community lawyer and leader. I currently serve on several non-profit boards and advisory councils.

I'd like to highlight Union City's diversity and compassion through expanding support of art and culture in all forms. It is my vision to empower our community with great curiosity, perspective, open-mindedness and love through the Arts & Culture Commission.
