SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Union City Setting the 2026 Calendar Year City Council Meeting Schedule
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report presents the proposed 2026 City Council Regular Meeting Schedule, which continues the established scheduling pattern approved by the Council in prior years. The schedule maintains regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, with adjustments for holiday schedules and vacation periods, as traditionally observed.
This advance approval ensures timely publication in various city outlets and adheres to established deadlines.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
This item aligns with Goal B: Governance and Organizational Effectiveness of the Strategic Plan by promoting consistency in governance and enhancing public participation through predictable meeting schedules.
BACKGROUND
As outlined in Union City Municipal Code Chapters 2.04.010 and 2.04.040, the City Council must set the day and time for regular meetings by resolution. Regular meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
Following past practices:
• One meeting in August is canceled to accommodate summer vacations. • The second meeting in December is canceled to align with the holiday furlough period.
DISCUSSION
The proposed 2026 schedule adheres to the City’s established tradition, ensuring consistency and predictability for the Council, staff, and the public. It provides flexibility to adjust meetings to align with significant holidays and events.
Notable Adjustments:
• August 25, 2026, the meeting is canceled.
• December 22, 2026, the meeting is canceled.

FISCAL IMPACT
Adopting the 2025 City Council Meeting Schedule will have no fiscal impact on the City's budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the proposed resolution setting the 2025 Calendar Year City Council Meeting Schedule.
