In Recognition of October 19-25, 2025 as
United Against Hate Week
WHEREAS, while hate crimes in Union City have decreased, our City remains committed to supporting all individuals and standing firm against hate, recognizing that hate crimes and xenophobic rhetoric still threaten the safety and unity of communities; and WHEREAS, hate often targets Black, AAPI, Indigenous people, immigrants, Muslims, people of color, women, Jewish people, LGBTQ+ community members, and other vulnerable groups; and WHEREAS, women worldwide continue to face gender-based violence, discrimination, and threats to their rights, highlighting the urgent need for ongoing advocacy and protection; and WHEREAS, places of worship, public spaces, and community gathering spots have increasingly been targets of hate groups, including white supremacists and neo-Nazis, which poses a serious challenge to our shared values of freedom, respect, and safety; and WHEREAS, Union City remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, unity, and constructive dialogue, rejecting hatred and violence and fostering an inclusive environment for all residents, regardless of race, color, national origin, or immigration status; and WHEREAS, on September 26, 2018, leaders across the Bay Area, including Union City, launched the United Against Hate campaign to defend diversity and counter hate in our communities.
