SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution Approving an Amendment to Update the Class Specification for the Classification of Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution to approve an update of the class specification for the classification of Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner, including retitled to Chief Building Official.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
This program supports Goal B. Governance and Organization Effectiveness of the strategic plan in aligning critical city services with current staffing levels.
BACKGROUND
As part of a review of the classification of Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner job duties and the needs of the City's Economic and Community Development Department relative to align position functions with appropriate qualifications and experience expectations, staff recommends modifications to the classification specification/job description.
DISCUSSION
The proposed classification specification incorporates modifications to align the job duties, qualifications, experience and skills expected of this classification. The goal is to provide clarity on essential functions, qualifications, and certifications during the next recruitment. The City has met and conferred with OE3 Management Employees’ Group (MEG), respectively, regarding the proposed revisions to the classification. No adjustments to the current salary range is recommended at this time. The Economic and Community Development Department worked with the Human Resources Department to ensure the class specification is updated.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact for the position specification changes being proposed.

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution to approve an amendment to the City’s Classification to update the class specification/job description of Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner.
