SEASONAL, AND TEMPORARY POSITIONS TO IMPLEMENT THE
INCREASE IN THE CALIFORNIA MINIMUM WAGE WHICH GOES INTO EFFECT ON JANUARY 1, 2026, IN CONFORMANCE WITH CALIFORNIA CODE OF REGULATIONS, TITLE 2, SECTION 570.5
WHEREAS, effective January 1, 2026, the hourly minimum wage in California will increase from $16.50 per hour to $16.90 per hour, an increase of approximately 2.42%; and
WHEREAS, the following unrepresented part-time, seasonal, and temporary positions are affected by the increase in the minimum wage: Preschool Aide, Recreation Aide, Intern, and Project Specialist; and
WHEREAS, to avoid compaction, City staff recommends that the salary ranges for the other unrepresented part-time, seasonal, and temporary positions of CRS Program Manager, Preschool Teacher, Program Coordinator, Recreation Leader, Seasonal Maintenance Worker, and Senior Recreation Leader also be increased by
2.42%; and
WHEREAS, the updated compensation for these unrepresented part-time, seasonal, and temporary positions will allow the City to attract and recruit new candidates and encourage seasonal employees to return; and
WHEREAS, the salary range for the unrepresented part-time position of Retired Annuitant is not affected by the increase in the minimum wage but is being adjusted to correct an error in the salary range; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the above and has determined that the amendments to the City's Classification and Compensation Plan for these unrepresented part-time, seasonal, and temporary positions are appropriate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Union City hereby approves amendments to the City’s Classification and Compensation Plan, attached hereto as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by reference, effective December 22, 2025.
