Arts & Culture Commission
The Union City Arts & Culture Commission's mission involves reviewing and advising on proposed public art installation sites, encouraging art programs, and performing various duties to support the city's cultural landscape. Definitions within their mandate include recognizing artists as individuals or groups with a serious, ongoing commitment to fine arts, and defining public art broadly to encompass media like paintings, drawings, mosaics, murals, sculptures, environmental artworks, monuments, and more, whether permanent or temporary. However, certain installations, such as landscape architecture, reproductions, playground equipment, and directional signage, are not considered eligible public art. Public art installations refer to art placed on public property, within public rights-of-way, or as required for private development, provided it's visible to the public.
