PROCLAMATION
Recognizing March 8, 2026 as
International Women’s Day
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day, observed each year on March 8, is a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls, and reaffirming the call for equality; and
WHEREAS, women and girls play a vital role in shaping Union City’s future as leaders, workers, caregivers, innovators, educators, and public servants; and WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” calls on communities to protect equal rights, advance fairness, and take meaningful action to remove barriers that limit opportunity; and
WHEREAS, achieving rights and justice requires continued commitment to safe communities, equal access to education and employment, fair treatment under the law, and freedom from discrimination and violence; and
WHEREAS, the City of Union City supports efforts that promote inclusion, dignity, and opportunity, recognizing that when women and girls thrive, our entire community grows stronger; and
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to celebrate progress, reflect on remaining challenges, and renew our shared commitment to equity for all women and girls.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Union City, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 8, 2026, as International Women’s Day in the City of Union City and encourage all residents to recognize the importance of rights, justice, and action for all women and girls.
