CITY OF UNION CITY
PROCLAMATION
Recognizing April 2026 as
American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month
WHEREAS, freedom of religion is a cherished right and a fundamental value upon which the United States was founded; and
WHEREAS, the City of Union City takes pride in the diversity of its residents and recognizes that people of many cultures, backgrounds, and faiths contribute to the strength of our community, including residents who practice Islam; and WHEREAS, Muslims in California and across the nation contribute greatly to civic life through service in education, healthcare, business, public service, the arts, community leadership, and charitable work that benefits people of all backgrounds; and WHEREAS, American Muslims provide important support to communities through family services, youth programs, food assistance, disaster relief efforts, and other acts of service that reflect compassion and community care; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to promote greater understanding, respect, and awareness of the many contributions of Muslim Americans and to recognize their role in strengthening communities throughout California and the United States; and WHEREAS, recognizing American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month provides an opportunity for residents of all backgrounds to learn about and celebrate the contributions of Muslim Americans in our community and throughout the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gary Singh, Mayor of the City of Union City, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2026 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month in the City of Union City and encourage all residents to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Muslim Americans to our community and our nation.
