Dear Family Members,
With Barry Ferrier's passing, Union City will miss his voice at the many meetings in which he participated. First as a Councilmember and later as Mayor, Barry always shared his perspective with me, consistently advocating for the interests of the community. His passing is a tremendous loss to Union City and, most importantly, to his family.
We thank Barry's family for his years of civic service, knowing that the time he spent at City Hall was time away from them. When I think of Barry, I remember his story of staying far too late after a Council meeting, deep in conversation on the steps of City Hall with a local newspaper reporter, until his wife collected him by his shirt collar! I also remember the collection of city staff reports and project documents stored in his garage — a living archive of Union City's history, its accomplishments, and the work still to be done.
Few citizens demonstrated the level of commitment and dedication that Barry brought to public service. He cared deeply about Union City and its future, and he will be greatly missed.
