Agenda Item: 6.2 (Under City Manager Reports)
Hello Mayor and Councilmembers,
My name is Daisy Maxion with Filipino Advocates for Justice (FAJ) in Union City, District 3.
We are a local 50+ year organization that directly serves the immigrant Filipino and AAPI community. We have been an anchor within the Union City community for many years.
Day in and day out, our organization has been on the frontlines, addressing the very real tensions that has been happening to the immigrant community. For example, last year, we've provided a Know Your Rights forum that included speakers from faith-based orgs, Supervisor Marquez of Alameda County, and other community organizations.
I want to urge City Council to reconsider and reintroduce the Ordinance Councilmember Lance proposed to restrict the use of City-owned or City-Controlled property for federal civil immigration enforcement activities in order to protect us ALL.
By reintroducing and passing an ordinance that protects our immigrant community members, you are giving families a fighting chance. You are showing that you are prepared to stand with us and use the authority of the local government to protect the people you represent.
We urge you to reintroduce and pass the ordinance restricting the use of city property for federal civil immigration enforcement activities.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Daisy Maxion, FAJ
