SWAT FIREARM PLATFORM TRANSITION PROPOSAL
•Proposal to transition SWAT close-quarters weapon platform from Colt M4 Carbine to B&T APC9 SD MBT G •Current M4 platform remains effective for:
-Containment operations
-Open-field and longer-distance engagements
• Limitations of the M4 in CQB environments:
-Larger overall size
-Increased muzzle blast and sound signature
-Greater over-penetration risk in residential settings
•B&T APC9 SD MBT G advantages:
-Compact and maneuverable platform
-Integrally suppressed system
-Reduced recoil and improved controllability
-Lower operator fatigue and hearing exposure
-Optimized for urban and vehicle-based operations
•Compared against SIG MPX and HK MP5:
-More reliable suppressed performance
-Shorter overall suppressed length
-Reduced gas blowback
SWAT Firearm Platform Transition Proposal
•SWAT Evaluation Results
-Team tested both APC9 and other MP5 variants (Sig/H&K) -Minimum 500 rounds fired per platform
•Testing included:
-Move-and-shoot drills
-Accuracy testing
- CQB scenarios
•Operators consistently preferred the SD variant due to:
-Reduced sound signature ICE
-Improved rail/accessory space
-Better ergonomics during CQB operations
•Cost Estimate
-APC9 SD MBT G: ~$3,153 per unit
-13 weapons total: ~$40,989 (one-time purchase)
-26 Glock 33-round magazines: ~$961.74
-Staff recommends the use of the PD Firearms and Supplies Account Fiscal Year 2025-2026 (110-21-211-21002-53201) •Supporting Agencies
-Current California agencies using the APC9 platform include:
-Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
-Anaheim Police Department
-Azusa Police Department
-Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office
