Agenda Item No. 4.8
DATE: June 23, 2026
TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joan Malloy, City Manager
SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution Approving an Amendment to Update the Class Specification for the Classification of Public Works Inspector
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report presents a proposed amendment to the class specification for the position of Public Works Inspector. The update is intended to ensure internal consistency within the Construction Inspection series by clarifying the role as an entry- to journey-level classification and removing lead-level responsibilities that are more appropriately assigned to higher-level positions. These revisions do not alter the fundamental purpose of the position but provide clearer distinction between levels within the series. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution to approve an update to the class specification of Public Works Inspector.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
This program supports Goal B. Governance and Organization Effectiveness of the strategic plan in aligning critical city services with current staffing levels.

References to lead responsibilities have been removed to reinforce the position's journey-level classification, distinct from Lead Construction Inspector.
