Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Daily Bowl
2016–2026
WHEREAS, Daily Bowl was founded in Union City in 2016 by Paddy Iyer and Lance Nishihira to fight hunger and prevent good food from going to waste; and WHEREAS, Daily Bowl rescues surplus fresh and prepared food from stores, restaurants, markets, distributors, and other food providers and quickly delivers it to local groups serving people in need; and
WHEREAS, this direct food recovery model turns surplus food into meals, keeps edible food out of landfills, and has provided millions of pounds of food to neighbors facing hunger; and
WHEREAS, Daily Bowl’s work is made possible by a strong network of donors, volunteers, food pantries, social service agencies, community groups, and places of worship; and
WHEREAS, Daily Bowl will mark this milestone with its 10th Anniversary Celebration on September 26, 2026, at the Ralph and Mary Ruggieri Senior Center in Union City.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Union City does hereby congratulate Daily Bowl on its 10th anniversary and thank founders Paddy Iyer and Lance Nishihira, along with its board members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, for their continued work to prevent food waste and feed people in need.
