RESOLUTION NO. 2026-XXX
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNION CITY ACCEPTING A $71,200 GRANT FROM FREMONT BANK AND
APPROPRIATE THE FUNDS TO THE LARRY OROZCO TEEN
WORKSHOP IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT #25-68
WHEREAS, the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop, located at 33623 Mission Boulevard, has served the Union City community for several decades and continues to be used for community-serving purposes; and
WHEREAS, on February 24, 2026, the City Council received a report regarding the structural condition, hazardous materials findings, and cost estimate for required remediation and repairs of the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop; and WHEREAS, the City Council received a preliminary cost estimate for comprehensive renovation and abatement of the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop totaling $684,717; and
WHEREAS, on March 24, 2026, the City Council formed the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop Ad Hoc Subcommittee to support development of a phased funding and implementation plan for the facility; and
WHEREAS, on September 17, 2026, Fremont Bank notified the City that it had awarded a $71,200 grant for the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop improvement project; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 4336-12 established the City’s policy governing the accounting for donated funds and authorizes donations up to $5,000 to be accepted without City Council action, with subsequent notification to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the grant exceeds the $5,000 administrative acceptance threshold and therefore requires City Council acceptance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to accept the $71,200 grant from Fremont Bank for the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop improvement project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Union City hereby accepts a $71,200 grant from Fremont Bank and appropriates the funds to the Larry Orozco Teen Workshop Improvements Project #25-68; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the $71,200 grant will be deposited into and held in Account No. 11200000-24129 [Trust & Deposit Fund, Larry Orozco Teen Bike Workshop Donations] until project work begins.
