SIDE LETTER AGREEMENT
BETWEEN
THE CITY OF UNION CITY
AND
THE UNION CITY POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION
Community Orientated Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit 3/12 Work Schedule Pilot Program
WHEREAS, the City of Union City (City) and the Union City Police Officers’ Association (UCPOA) are parties to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU); WHEREAS, the Union City Police Department (Department) maintains a special assignment known as the Community Orientated Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit; WHEREAS, employees assigned to the COPPS Unit are represented by the UCPOA; WHEREAS, the Department and the UCPOA are interested in establishing a pilot program that would provide for 3/12 work schedules for employees assigned to the COPPS Unit; NOW THEREFORE, the City and the UCPOA agree to establish a pilot program for a 3/12:20/40 work schedule for sworn staff assigned to the COPPS Unit subject to the following terms:
1. The parties agree that all sworn staff assigned to the COPPS Unit will work a 3/12:20/40 Work Schedule for the duration of this pilot program. Implementation of these work schedules is subject to all existing terms and conditions for sworn staff working 3/12:20/40 schedules agreed upon by the UCPOA and the City, including the calculation of FLSA overtime, as memorialized in the current MOU between the parties effective 1/1/2025 through 12/31/2027.
2. The parties agree that if the Chief of Police, for operational needs, deems it necessary to temporarily change the above schedules, those personnel assigned to work a 3/12:20/40 work schedule shall have their work schedule altered to no less than a 4/10/40 work schedule.
3. The parties agree that this pilot program shall remain in place for a period of two years from the date of its implementation, but may be extended beyond the two-year term by mutual agreement of the UCPOA and the City.
All other terms and conditions set forth in the MOU shall continue without modification.
