Subject: Fwd: Opposition to Proposed Pilot Travel Center - File No. 26-055 Dear Planning Commissioners,
I am writing to formally oppose the proposed Pilot Travel Center project at 5666 Cherry Glen Road (File No. 26-055).
While I support responsible commercial development and recognize the need for services that benefit residents and visitors, I do not believe that a 24-hour truck stop, fueling facility, convenience store, and vehicle service center is an appropriate use for this location.
My concerns include:
1. Traffic and Safety Impacts The project is expected to generate substantial vehicle and commercial truck traffic, creating congestion on local roadways and increasing safety risks for residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and recreational users. The addition of heavy truck traffic near residential neighborhoods, trails, and parks is particularly concerning.
2. Noise and Quality of Life The proposed 24-hour operation would likely result in continuous noise from truck engines, deliveries, fueling activities, customer traffic, and vehicle maintenance operations. Overnight activity could negatively affect the quality of life of nearby residents and diminish the enjoyment of surrounding recreational and open-space areas.
3. Environmental Concerns The project raises concerns regarding air quality impacts from vehicle emissions, diesel exhaust, and truck idling. Additional concerns include potential stormwater runoff, fuel spills, litter, and other environmental impacts that could affect nearby natural resources and open-space areas.
4. Lighting and Visual Impacts Large-scale commercial lighting associated with fuel canopies, parking areas, signage, and overnight operations may create light pollution and adversely affect nearby residential properties and recreational spaces.
5. Compatibility with the Area The scale and intensity of a 24-hour travel center appear inconsistent with the surrounding character of the area and Vacaville’s long-term vision for this portion of the community. I encourage the City to carefully evaluate whether alternative commercial uses could better serve residents while minimizing adverse impacts.

2 I respectfully request that the Planning Commission deny the proposed project or require substantial modifications that adequately address these concerns before any approvals are considered.
Please include this letter in the public record for File No. 26-055.
Thank you for your consideration and for your commitment to protecting the quality of life of Vacaville residents.
Sincerely,
Robert Boardman Sent from iCloud
