Planning for the Future
At the request of the VCUSD Governing Board and the direction of the Superintendent planning begins in the 2022-2023 school year for a more comprehensive and coherent arts program for students.
The Goal: Create a focused TK-Grade 12 Arts Pipeline that includes:
● Arts education for all students in grades TK-8 that provides them the experiences to determine their level of interest in the arts, and the skills to successfully engage should they choose that path; and
● A Visual and Performing Arts School/School Within a School that provides high school students an option to pursue the arts
2023-2024: A New Day for Arts in VCUSD
In the 2023-2024 school year the following will be implemented:
● Approximately $1M allocated to support arts education ● Established a partnership with Vallejo Teaching Artists has resulted in arts education for all students in grades 3-5 at 12 elementary schools, with expansion to other grades levels beginning at some schools as plans are developed for the future ● Engagement of a full time lead administrator to drive the planning and implementation of the Arts in VCUSD programming
● Identifying a site(s) for a Visual and Performing Arts Program in 2024-2025, student recruitment, and program auditions
