This will impact youth and families of all age ranges, income levels, and abilities.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The Vallejo City Council voted Youth as a multi-year goal to invest in more services, resources, and programming to improve youth outcomes. Additionally, per Resolution No. 22-222, approved by Council on December 20, 2022, there are nine priorities for the use of revenue generated by Measure P: 1. Maintain critical city services such as keeping public spaces healthy, safe and clean; 2. Maintain fire protection; 3.
Maintain emergency medical response; 4. Maintain crime prevention; 5. Address homelessness; 6. Address blight; 7. Address dumping; 8. Repair deteriorating neighborhood streets, roads and sidewalks; and 9. Youth priorities. The City of Vallejo has prioritized youth development and youth programming to increase positive outcomes throughout the community.
This grant agreement will support youth development by assisting youth and families in being able to access programs and activities offered through GVRD by bolstering their scholarship program for qualified low-income families. The scholarship program will also expand to include youth sports teams who can apply for support in accessing fields and facilities managed by GVRD, making Vallejo fields, courts, and facilities more accessible to Vallejo based teams. Funds will also be used to aid in supporting free or low-cost youth events, targeting 50 or more attendees, programming/ activities at park facilities and after-school programs, known as youth camps. Lastly, funds will aid in supporting marketing and advertising efforts for GVRD.
FISCAL IMPACT
On June 11, 2024, the Vallejo City Council appropriated Measure P funds in the amount of $275,000 towards Youth Priorities as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 24-25 budget, including $125,000 for Youth Community Grants.
