Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-23 Docket II Scholarship Grants Awarded by Vernon CommUNITY Fund Grant Committee
Recommendation
A. Receive and file the report on grants awarded by the Grant Committee for FY 2022-23 Docket II; and
B. Recognize the FY 2022-23 Docket II Scholarship Grant recipients for their outstanding academic performance, personal achievement, community involvement, and leadership.
Background
On May 17, 2023, the Vernon CommUNITY Fund Grant Committee (Grant Committee) held its final grant award meeting for the 2022-23 fiscal year. There were a total of eight (8) Scholarship Grant applicants included on the second docket (listed below in alphabetical order) and all were approved by the Grant Committee for the amounts recommended, for a combined total of $40,000.
1. Gabriela Bautista, Alliance Collins Family - $5,000;
2. Isabel Cantoran, Maywood Center for Enriched Studies - $6,000;
3. Itzia Corona, Maywood Center for Enriched Studies - $3,000;
4. Melony Dominguez, Garfield High School - $6,000;
5. Melissa Gonzalez, Maywood Center for Enriched Studies - $6,000;
6. Sophie Martinez, Brio College Prep - $3,000;
7. Sergio Morales, Garfield High School - $5,000; and
8. Damian Plata, Maywood Center for Enriched Studies - $6,000.
Section 2.48.130(D) of the Vernon Municipal Code requires the Grant Committee Executive Director (City Administrator) provide the City Council a report of the grant related actions taken by the Grant Committee. Certificates will be presented to all Grant Recipients to acknowledge their awards.
Fiscal Impact
Sufficient funds for the total grant award amount of $20,000 for Docket II of FY 2022-23 are included in the City's 2022-23 Community Promotion Budget Account No. 011-010-140-529715.
