A PROCLAMATION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DECLARING APRIL 26, 2024 AS ARBOR DAY
WHEREAS, in 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture established a special day to be set aside for the planting of trees; and
WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, trees are an important tool in combating climate change by reducing the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cutting heating and cooling costs, moderating the temperature, cleaning the air, producing life-giving oxygen, and providing habitats for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon recognizes the importance of trees in our daily lives as a source of beauty and comfort by improving community appearance, creating a healthier living environment, promoting energy conservation, moderating temperature and providing shade, heat reflection and wind protection, and improving air quality; and WHEREAS, the City of Vernon is committed to continuing its tree-planting endeavors; and WHEREAS, to promote community awareness of the importance of trees, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Vernon, on behalf of its employees, residents, and businesses, encourage all citizens to plant trees to promote the wellbeing of present and future generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, ON BEHALF OF ITS EMPLOYEES, RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES HEREBY DECLARES APRIL 26, 2024, AS ARBOR DAY. THIS PROCLAMATION IS BEING PRESENTED BY THE HONORABLE MAYOR CRYSTAL LARIOS FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON THIS 16TH OF APRIL, TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY-FOUR.
