Approve and adopt the City of Vernon 2025-2026 Legislative and Regulatory Platform Background
A Legislative and Regulatory Platform is a summary of policy statements that provide a framework for a City’s response to state and federal legislation and regulation. The City of Vernon 2025-2026 Legislative and Regulatory Platform (Platform) (Attachment 1) was introduced to the City Council at the February 4, 2025 Regular Council Meeting. As outlined in the February 4 Agenda Report (Attachment 2), the Platform asserts the City’s position on priority issues and matters that impact the City’s ability to operate effectively, while allowing the consideration of additional legislative and budget issues that arise during the legislative session. On February 4, Council also received a presentation from the City’s legislative advocacy consultant, the California Public Policy Group, that included highlights of the proposed Platform statements (Attachment 3). The Council did not indicate any changes were necessary to the Platform as proposed and directed staff to place the Platform on the February 18, 2025 Regular Council Meeting agenda for adoption.
