Department: City Administration

Southeast Los Angeles Area (SELA) Cultural Center Presentation Recommendation
No action required by City Council. This is a presentation only.

Background
The Southeast Los Angeles Area (SELA) Cultural Center is to be a regional arts, culture, and creativity destination point to showcase the diverse and innovative work of the SELA community and artists. Community members shaped an initial concept for the Cultural Center and now, a partnership between LA County, the State Department of Parks and Recreation, and the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy is advancing the development of the facility.

An Advisory Panel was established in 2023 to guide the vision, design and governance. The Panel includes State, County, and City representatives, and SELA artists, educators, Indigenous tribes, and community organizations. There are periodic opportunities for public engagement as the project planning continues.

A project representative will provide an informational presentation at the April 7 City Council meeting.
