Proclamation Recognizing Retiring Employee - Jose Zermeno Recommendation
Acknowledge and present a proclamation to retiring employee Jose Zermeno, Street Maintenance Worker, in recognition of his dedicated service to the City of Vernon.

Background
Historically, the City Council has issued proclamations honoring retiring City employees. Jose Zermeno, Street Maintenance Worker, is retiring from the City of Vernon effective July 9, 2026, after providing twenty-one (21) years of exemplary service to the community. Jose began his career with the City on May 16, 2005, dedicated to street maintenance, quickly establishing himself as a reliable, hardworking team member.

Over the past two decades, his role expanded to support a comprehensive range of operations within the Public Works Department's Street Maintenance Division. His skilled contributions have been vital to maintaining the City’s infrastructure, including essential concrete and asphalt work, sign replacement, street striping, curb painting, and serving as a cornerstone of the City’s Graffiti Crew.

Throughout his tenure, Jose took immense pride in keeping the City clean, safe, and visually appealing. In addition to his daily maintenance duties, he played a pivotal role in mentorship and workforce development, generously training fellow crew members on specialized graffiti removal equipment, precision color matching, and efficient painting techniques.

Jose’s commitment to public service extended beyond his core division. He demonstrated a strong spirit of teamwork and collaboration by routinely partnering with other City divisions, including Vernon Public Utilities and the Health Department. Notably, he lent his expertise to ensure the success of the City's electronic waste (e-waste) collection events.

During his distinguished career with the City of Vernon, Jose earned the deepest respect of his colleagues, recognized for his unwavering dedication, hard work, and camaraderie. Jose concludes his impactful career with the City to transition into a vibrant retirement, where he plans to travel with his family and compete nationally in senior tournament softball. Jose Zermeno was hired on May 16, 2005, and met the eligibility requirements under CalPERS to retire from the City effective July 9, 2026.
