A PROCLAMATION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL
COMMENDING CLAUDIA ARELLAN~ FOR HER MANY YEARS OF
SERVICE TO THE CITY OF VERNON
WHEREAS, Claudia Arellano has been a dedicated employee of the City of Vernon for over thirtyfour years and faithfully performed her duties as a public servant since August 3, 1991; and WHEREAS, Claudia meets the eligibility requirements under CaIPERS to retire from the City of Vernon effective August 3, 2026, as a Utilities Program Analyst; and WHEREAS, during her employment with the City of Vernon, Claudia held various positions in City Administration, Public Works, and Public Utilities Department, including Utility Clerk, Secretary, Department Secretary, Assistant to the Director of Community Services, Project Engineer, Stormwater Special Projects Analyst, and Utilities Program Analyst; and
WHEREAS, Claudia continually expanded her knowledge and expertise throughout her career, supporting several departments through extensive hands-on experience, technical training, and professional certifications, including a certification in Stormwater Inspection; and WHEREAS, during her three decades of service, Claudia played a critical role in providing support for: City Administration and the City's risk management program; Public Works' tree canopy and stormwater programs; Public Utilities Engineering Division's pole attachments program; and led regulatory compliance while supporting budget and administrative functions in the Utility's Natural Gas Division; and WHEREAS, while in the Public Works Department, Claudia successfully secured external funding to advance the City's efforts to grow its tree canopy and support its commitment to urban forestry including obtaining a Cal Fire Cool Parks Program grant to plant more than 200 trees throughout the City, leading the City's successful application for its first-ever Tree City USA designation in 2019, and collaborating with neighboring jurisdictions to secure grant funding for regional stormwater improvement projects; and WHEREAS, as a valued member of the Public Utilities Natural Gas Division, Claudia was instrumental in implementing and managing key initiatives, including oversight of the pipeline safety public awareness program and federal regulatory reporting to the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the California Public Utilities Commission; and
WHEREAS, Claudia led the Public Utilities Natural Gas Division through its first-ever comprehensive pipeline safety regulatory audit, resulting in a perfect inspection with zero findings and zero recommendations—an exceptional outcome reflecting her strong knowledge of pipeline safety regulations, natural gas operations, and her extraordinary preparation and attention to detail; and WHEREAS, Claudia consistently demonstrates an exemplary attitude and inspires excellence from others through her daily interactions with her colleagues, her unwavering positivity, and collaborative spirit; all of which make Claudia an integral part of the City's success in serving its customers, and will have a lasting impact on the City; and
WHEREAS, we congratulate and express our appreciation to Claudia for her commendable service to the City of Vernon and wish Claudia good health upon her retirement and for continued success in life's pursuits.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, ON BEHALF OF ITS
EMPLOYEES, RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES HEREBY COMMEND AND THANK CLAUDIA ARELLANO FOR HER YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY. THIS PROCLAMATION IS BEING PRESENTED TO CLAUDIA ARELLANO BY THE
