Human Resources Professional Day
Recommendation
Proclaim September 26, 2026, as Human Resources Professional Day in the City of Vernon to recognize the essential work of human resources professionals.
Background
Human Resources Professional Day, observed annually on September 26, honors the vital contributions of professionals working in the field of human resources across sectors. Human resources professionals play a critical role in supporting the City’s most valuable asset – its employees.
Human resources professionals have the privilege of supporting employees throughout the entire employment lifecycle, including recruitment and selections, onboarding, training, professional development, employee engagement, employee relations, classification and compensation, benefits, worker’s compensation, workplace safety, performance management, leave administration and retirement planning. HR professionals frequently address complex and sensitive matters that require discretion, confidentiality, fairness, consistency, sound judgement, professionalism, and compassion.
While many of their responsibilities occur behind the scenes, human resources professionals are strategic partners who help shape organizational culture by building relationships, promoting diversity, and driving inclusion. By fostering a positive culture of respect, collaboration, innovation, and excellence, with care, human resources professionals enhance organizational effectiveness, workplace capacity, and productivity in the City of Vernon.
