PARKS DIVISIONQUARTER 1
ADA compliance in the parks was a focus in
the first quarter. Parks “Special Projects”
crew installed four ADA compliant bleachers
at Center St. Park. The procurement of the
bleachers was made possible through the
CDBG (Community Development Block
Grant) funds that support community
development activities to build stronger and
more resilient communities. Stay tuned for
additional amenities in the parks.

JULY 2023 - SEPTEMBER 2023
Here they go again, more upgrades to
make Victorville parks stand out! Parks
“Special Projects” crew installed three
ADA compliant drinking fountains. The
new fountains offer a bi-level drinking
design in addition to a bottle filling
station with push button activation.
Measure P made it possible for the
procurement of the fabulous state of
the art drinking fountains. Both
installations ensure equal access, full
inclusion and participation for patrons
to enjoy our beautiful parks.

PARKS
1 Aquatics kicked off the summer
with 1,049 participants ages 6
months to 71 years of age. This year
there was an increase of
enrollment in the adult class. So
exciting to see the whole
community engaged and out and
about. Water safety and learning
how to swim is an essential skill at
any age. Our program success
shows it is never too late to learn!
Approximately 2,500 patrons came
to recreation swim this summer.
The junior lifeguard program
prepares future Lifeguards to
ensure the safety of patrons.
RECREATION DIVISIONQUARTER 1
The Recreation Division hosted the annual
Summer Concert Series in June and July at
Hook Park. The concert series includes live
music, food vendors, city booths, and a kids
zone with jumpers and Gellyball. Not to
mention it includes a good time to gather as
a community to laugh, dance, and enjoy!
Something for everyone! The concert series
also includes performances from the top
finalists of “Victorville Sings!” “Victorville
Sings” includes top notch performances and
an opportunity for the community to vote via
text for their favorite singer. The Victorville
Sings! competition is sponsored by B.E.A.R.S.,
and the first place winner is awarded $500.00
cash and a gift basket of goodies.

2 LIBRARY DIVISIONQUARTER 1
The library’s annual summer Reading
Program had 501 participants this
year, compared to 236 participants in
2022. Each week, participants read
books for prizes, participated in crafts,
experienced live performances and
watched movies. Crafts included
making accordion crocodiles and
Black Panther necklaces.
Summer performances included
painting rocks with High Desert Rocks
New Life Facility, Ventriloquist Marc
Griffiths, and Juggler Michael Rayner.
Participants ranged from babies to 54
years old. You are never too young or
too old to enjoy programs at the City’s
library. Hope to see you next year!
The library also hosted the annual
Harry Potter Party on July 29th.
Participants threw on their robes,
grabbed their Hogwarts acceptance
letter and came to the library.
Participants were sorted into houses:
Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or
Slytherin to enjoy crafts, games and
trivia! Did we see you there? If not,
hope you will join us next year.
Remember what Ron Weasley said,
“When in doubt, go to the library."

3 FACILITIES DIVISIONQUARTER 1
In 2019, the City completed an ADA
accessibility self-assessment. To address
report findings, each year the City develops a
plan to remediate the findings. This year the
Facilities crew had restrooms installed at
Center Street Park and Brentwood Park. The
restrooms are “Exeloo” self-cleaning. This will
assist in ensuring the restrooms stay clean
throughout the day. The parks were chosen
based on lack of facilities or high traffic and
use frequency. Additionally, the installation
of the restroom yet again addressed the
ADA standards and provides the best for the
community. The facilities crew continues to
address the Parks Master Plan deficiencies
and continue to upgrade parks for the
community to enjoy beautiful parks.
