Neptune products are already utilized throughout the District’s infrastructure for water management and monitoring. Standardization of a water meter manufacturer is necessary to ensure accurate measurement and billing of water usage every month. With almost 39,000 water meters and endpoints currently installed, standardization is also important to maintain efficient processes such as billing, reading, operation and maintenance, inventory control, and testing; and a familiarization of product usage, programming, software, data logging, and alert notification capabilities by meter, conservation, and billi ng staff. Additional proprietary Neptune equipment (ancillary hardware and software) is also necessary for seamless and reliable integration of AMI processes.
Source Standardization: Ferguson Enterprises, LLC (Ferg uson) i s the sole regional supplier of Neptune products for our area. Please see the attached letter from F erguson regarding the regional reps for Neptune products.

The R900 architecture is a point-to-multipoint (PMP) star-based system, and provides for both redundancy and reliability of endpoint and gateway communications. Developed primarily for battery operated devices, the R900 gateway provides extensive scalability in a compact enclosure and supports millions of messages daily.
The Neptune R900® endpoint transmits its data by hopping on discrete frequencies (channels) to eliminate the potential interference from other 900MHz devices that may be present in this unlicensed FCC band. This design was chosen to address any interference that may exist at certain frequencies within this ISM band in an effort to maximize the opportunity for the R900 signal to be received by the data collection device. Neptune’s R900 endpoints utilize Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) to minimize the potential for RF interference to and from other devices.
