SPOTLIGHT
Every April and October, we organize a city-wide Community Cleanup Day. Between 800- 1,200 volunteers turn out for each event, collecting litter and debris from roadsides. Volunteers are provided with trash bags, gloves, litter pickup sticks, water, and t-shirts while the City disposes of the collected trash. Volunteers also receive coupons for lunch discounts at a variety of participating local restaurants. More information on signing up for our Cleanup events can be found by visiting Victorvilleca.gov/CCU.
From our October 21, 2023, event:
# of Volunteers 538
# of Tons of Litter Collected 6
We sponsor an Adopt-A-Street Program to promote a cleaner community and provide a year-round volunteer opportunity for concerned residents. Adopt-A-Street volunteers agree to pick up litter along their “adopted” stretch of road at least four times per year.
Adopt-A-Street volunteers are provided gloves, litter sticks, and trash bags to collect the trash, which is then removed by our staff. The City also posts a “This Street Adopted By” street sign with the name of the individual or group that adopted the street. More information on how to become a volunteer, please visit Victorvilleca.gov/AdoptAStreet.

10/15 – Corta Pl & Corta Dr 11/01 – Coad Rd & Green Tree Rd 12/20 – Palmdale and Begonia Our crews provide support to the Code Enforcement Department as needed. Once a Code Enforcement Officer has posted the site and it has been vacated and authorized for abatement, our crews come in to clear the location of trash and debris. This task has continually grown in volume and takes more time as our homeless population has increased throughout the years to become a daily task for all crews. This most common items removed include clothing and electronics.
From October through December 2023:
Homeless Encampments abated 320
Despite the many programs offered by the City for free and convenient disposal, there are still individuals that choose to illegally dump debris on vacant lots, roadsides, and in alley ways.
These illegal dumps are unsightly and create hazards to our community, including to the vehicles traveling our roads and to the environment. Division workers routinely monitor areas for illegal dumps and use a variety of equipment to remove and clean up the debris.
Items removed between October and December 2023 included:

California’s Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy, commonly referred to as SB 1383, passed in 2016 and went into effect on January 1, 2022. To comply with SB 1383 regulations, our residential organics recycling program launched for Victorville residents in December 2023.
Approximately 32,000 green carts were delivered to all residents in about 2 weeks, with these new carts being serviced the following week.
The total tonnage of residential organics collected in December was over 438 tons of organic material. This will become approximately 328 tons of compost in 3-4 weeks once it has completed the curing process. Upon completion, it will fill 14 trucks to be shipped out to our California farmers for use in crop planting.
Throughout the year, we sponsor events to assist our residents with cleanup and large projects that fall outside of their normal routine; events like ShredFest, and Free Dump Day, and Community Cleanup. Our next quarter will include two of these events; Free Dump Day will be held on Saturday, March 9th and ShredFest & Compost Giveaway will be held on Saturday, February 3rd. Details on all our City cleanup programs can be found online at Victorvilleca.gov/DumpItRightVV.
