2024 FIREWORKS SUMMARY

NOTABLE SUCCESSES
 INCREASED POLICE ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS RELATED TO FIREWORKS SALES • Fines issues for the sale of fireworks from a residence  EFFECTIVE OUTREACH EFFORTS
• Direct fireworks messaging engagement through mobile devices • Proactive involvement by rental property owners with their tenants  INCREASED OFFICER FIREWORKS PATROLS PROVIDED:
• Immediate in person contact with properties reported of fireworks use • Direct officer engagement and support with impacted residents • Deterrence: Patrols established a visual enforcement presence

2024 FIREWORKS SUMMARY CONT. \
NEW CHALLENGES:
 ABUNDANT DRY VEGETATIONTHROUGHOUT THE DESERT REGION
• Recent wet season generated extensive dry weeds in open areas  INCREASE USE OF LOUD, EXPLOSIVE AND DANGEROUS AERIAL CANISTER SHELLS • Difficult to track and identify their origin.
• Produce intense heat and sparks - easily igniting nearby dry vegetation.  LACK OF STATEENFORCEMENT AT STATEBORDER INSPECTION POINTS • Allows people to import illegal fireworks sold and manufactured in other states  SALE AND USE OF FIREWORKS IN ADJACENT JURISDICTIONS
• Creates public confusion and entices use of illegal fireworks • Avoidable brush fires strain neighboring fire departments
