Item Number: 22
City Council / Board of Directors
Written Communications
Meeting of: February 18, 2025
Submitted By:

Jennifer Thompson, City Clerk

Subject:

Discussion and possible action to rename Mustang Street to Exquadrum Way at the Southern California Logistics Airport
Recommendation:

That Your Honorable City Council and Board of Directors deny the request to rename Mustang Street to Exquadrum Way based on the fact that Mustang Street is not a dedicated public road.

Fiscal Impact:

Based on staff’s recommendation, there is not a fiscal impact associated with this item.

Background:

At the City Council meeting of February 4, 2025, it was moved by Mayor Becerra, with majority approval, to agendize an item for discussion and possible action to rename Mustang Street to Exquadrum Way at the Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA).

After further research of this matter and although this seems like a simple ask of the City and Airport Authority, it is important to know that Mustang Street does not legally exist as a public right of way but instead is a private access/utility easement. Additionally, authorizing this request could be problematic since the Airport Authority has an agreement with Prologis for the ultimate takedown and development of the property where the access/utility easement exists.

Discussion:

In addition to the aforementioned, staff has attached the original letter submitted by Exquadrum along with maps depicting the area in question. As the Council discusses this item, it should also be mindful that businesses at SCLA are required to conform to the signage regulations as prescribed in the SCLA Specific Plan. Additionally, signage at SCLA may further be governed by a property owner association. To respect our 4 0
1 7
Development Code and the process it administers, the Council may want to refer Exquadrum to staff.

Staff remains available for any questions or comments you might have.
