Strategic Plan Goal:
This item aligns with Goal A – Financial Sustainability and Goal B – Public Safety as outlined in the City of Victorville 2023–2026 Strategic Plan. Measure P is a vital source of revenue that enables the City of Victorville to enhance public safety and expand essential services. Funds generated through Measure P support vital departments such as Police, Fire, Code Compliance, Animal Services, Community Services, and Homelessness and Housing, helping to meet the needs of a growing population.
Background:
On May 19, 2020, the City Council was presented with the Victorville Public Safety Plan, a comprehensive strategy to improve public safety. After a thorough review, the Council adopted Resolution No. 20-065 on July 21, 2020, authorizing the submittal of a one percent General Transaction and Use Tax (TUT) measure on the ballot for the November 3, 2020, General Municipal Election. At that election, voters approved Measure P, enacting a one percent (1.0%) TUT, enabling the City to expand essential services and increase public safety for Victorville’s growing population. This one percent sales tax took effect on April 1, 2021, increasing Victorville’s sales tax rate from 7.75 percent to 8.75 percent.
