In April of 2025, San Bernardino County’s Department of Public Works contacted and notified the City of Victorville Engineering Department of the County’s initiation of an investigation for the potential installation of a signalized intersection on Ridgecrest Road.

The investigation focused on the offset intersection of Ridgecrest Road with Vista Point Drive and Bluff Crest Street. Following the investigation, County traffic engineering staff informed City staff that the collected traffic data supported the installation of a traffic signal, based on the traffic signal warrant analysis. The County requested the City’s input and participation in the project, as the centerline of Ridgecrest Road at the offset intersection serves as the boundary between the two agencies, effectively splitting the project area in half.

This project has been budgeted. The preparation of the plans, specifications, and engineering for this project will begin later this year.

Following completion of the plans and specifications, the project will be advertised for construction.

This project will rehabilitate the two-lane segment between US-395 and Bellflower Street, which is classified as a super arterial.

Existing roadway records indicate portions of the corridor date back to 1994, while the age of other sections remains unknown due to the absence of historical plans. As a designated truck route carrying approximately 16,000 vehicles per day, the roadway is subjected to heavy traffic loading that has accelerated pavement deterioration. In addition, stormwater flows frequently overtop the roadway, creating safety concerns, limiting access, and increasing maintenance demands. The proposed project will provide full roadway reconstruction and install stormwater culvert crossings beneath the roadway to improve drainage, enhance safety, reduce maintenance requirements, and restore a smooth, reliable driving surface. Identified through the City’s pavement management program as a project with a high benefit-to-cost ratio, the roadway rehabilitation is included in the City’s five-year Measure I Capital Im
provement Program, reflecting its importance to the regional transportation network.

This project has been budgeted. The preparation of the plans, specifications, and engineering for this project are being developed in- house by Engineering Department staff. Following completion of the plans and specifications, the project will be advertised for construction.
