MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF
1 APRIL-JUNE 2026
The fourth quarter of Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 was a s ignificant and productive period for the Victorville Fire Department. During the months of A pril through June, the Department continued to strengthen our personnel, enhance our operationa l capabilities, support our members, and prepare for several important organizational transi tions.

The Victorville Fire Department was proud to hire n ine new Firefighters during the quarter and begin their training and development. Investing in the next generation of Firefighters remains one of our highest priorities, and we are grateful to t he staff who continue to mentor and prepare these new members for the challenges of the fire se rvice. The Department also took delivery of our new Tactical Water Tender, adding an important r esource to our emergency response capabilities.

Training remained a major focus throughout the quar ter, with all crews participating in multi- company night drill trainings at Southern Californi a Logistics Airport (SCLA). These exercises provided valuable opportunities for our personnel t o strengthen inter-company coordination, operate in complex environments, and prepare for th e types of large-scale incidents our community may experience.

2 MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF CONTINUED
Our C.A.R.E (Crisis Accountability/Assessment, Resp onse, and Education) Team continued to establish a strong presence during critical events throughout the public safety community.

Their work has become an important part of how we s upport our personnel and our public safety partners during difficult and challenging ci rcumstances. Taking care of the people who take care of our community remains a priority for t he Victorville Fire Department.

The quarter also brought a significant loss to our Department family with the off-duty passing of former Victorville Firefighter, BJ Myers . BJ's service to the Department and the community will not be forgotten. His passing is a s obering reminder of the occupational risks associated with our profession and the importance o f continuing our efforts to protect and care for our Firefighters throughout their careers. We extend our deepest condolences to BJ's family, friends, and former colleagues.

Our Firefighters responded to several significant i ncidents throughout the quarter, once again demonstrating the professionalism, courage, and com mitment that define the Victorville Fire Department. Each response represents an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents we serve.

As we move into the second half of 2026, the Victor ville Fire Department remains focused on strengthening our organization, investing in our pe ople and resources, preparing for the future, and providing the highest level of service possible to the Victorville community. I am proud of the dedication and professionalism demonst rated by our members and grateful for their continued commitment to our mission.

Continuing Education & Training
We are working to revamp the Department’s EMS conti nuing education process to make training more consistent, predictable, and benefici al to our personnel. The goal is to establish regularly scheduled CPR, ACLS, and EMS Sk ills Days, allowing everyone to get into a consistent training rhythm with standardized dates throughout the year.

In addition to our internal training, we are explor ing opportunities to bring outside instructors and specialty training to the Victorvil le Fire Department (VFD). This will provide additional Continued Education (CE) opportunities a nd expose our personnel to new perspectives, techniques, and developments in preho spital medicine.

Quality Improvement & EMS Committee
We are also expanding our Quality Improvement (QI) process and EMS Committee. The goal is to develop a more collaborative and effecti ve process that goes beyond simply reviewing documentation. We want QI to identify tre nds, recognize good patient care, address opportunities for improvement, and help gui de future training.

There is a lot happening within EMS, and these effo rts are focused on building a consistent, sustainable, and progressive EMS progra m for VFD. As these initiatives develop, additional information regarding training dates, CE opportunities, the EMS Committee, and the CONFIRE transition will be provi ded.
