Attention: Bidding Contractors

Reference: RFB 25-26-16 Biofilter Media Replacement and Inspection, Testing at Visalia Water Reclamation Plant
RFB No. 25-26-16
Specification Section 10001 – Odor Control Biofilter Number 1 (BF01) Subject: GES Fiber-Max™ Media Proposal #4544

GES Biotek is pleased to present the following proposal for the supply of Fiber-Max™ biofilter wood chip media for the Odor Control Biofilter Media Replacement project at the Visalia Water Reclamation Plant.

The proposed scope includes approximately 24,750 ft³ (916 yd³) of Fiber-Max™ media for installation in Biofilter Cells A and B. Delivery is anticipated to require approximately ten (10) roll-off double trailer loads, with final load count subject to field loading conditions and material compaction.

Specification Exception and Media Basis - GES Biotek takes exception to the specified media described in Section 2.04 Biofilter Media, which appears to consist of larger components typical of yard-waste composting materials. This type of media has largely fallen out of favor in modern biofiltration applications due to variability in composition, potential contamination, and inconsistent long-term performance.

In contrast, GES Fiber-Max™ is a controlled, engineered organic media manufactured exclusively from trees and large tree branches. The GES Fiber-Max™ material:

• Contains no yard waste, construction debris, demolition materials, commercial wood byproducts • Excludes eucalyptus, cedar, redwood, or any species known to inhibit microbial activity • Provides consistent structure, porosity, and long-term biological stability • Nutrient Conditioning and Biological Support

Prior to shipment, the media is pre-wetted with GES 1578 Super Nutrients and blended with approximately 1–2% GES Gro-Max™ supplemental biological enhancement additives as required to promote rapid establishment of a healthy microbial population.

This conditioning supports the growth of key sulfur -oxidizing microorganisms, including Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ferroxidans, enabling efficient biological oxidation of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) within the media bed.

Proper system startup will require:

• Adequate moisture control (target ~40–60% media moisture) • Humidified inlet air conditions
• Sufficient H₂S loading to sustain microbial activity

Page 2 of 3 ends
