NOTICE OF PUBLICATION OF NOMINATION CERTIFICATION
AND POSSIBLE APPOINTMENT IN LIEU OF ELECTION
California Elections Code Section 10229
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to Section 10229 of the California Elections Code, following the close of the nomination period for the General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, there was not more than one person nominated for the office of Visalia City Council Member, District 3.
The person so nominated is:
District 3 – Brian Poochigian
Because only one person was nominated for this office, Section 10229 of the California Elections Code authorizes the City Council to take one of the following actions:
Appoint the person who has been nominated to the office; Appoint any eligible voter to the office if no one had been nominated; or Direct that the election for the office be held.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Visalia City Council will consider this matter at its regular meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, 707 W. Acequia Avenue, Visalia, California 93291. At that meeting, the City Council will consider whether to appoint the nominated candidate and cancel the election for District 3, or direct that the election be held.
Any person appointed pursuant to Elections Code section 10229 shall qualify, take office, and serve exactly as if elected at the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election for the applicable term of office.
If the City Council makes an appointment pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code, the City Clerk/Elections Official shall not accept for filing any statement of write-in candidacy submitted after the appointment is made. /s/ Reyna Rivera Chief Deputy City Clerk August 7, 2026
