Approved by: Patrick Johnson, City Manager Agenda Location: Consent Calendar SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2021 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT AWARD RECOMMENDATION: Adopt City Council Resolution No. 2022- , accepting grant funds of$10,091 in Fiscal Year 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant funding and amending the Operating Budget for Fiscal Years 2021/22 and 2022/23.
CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: (1) Fiscal Responsibility, and (2) Public Safety.
PRIOR ACTION: On June 15, 2022, adopted City Council Resolution No. 2022-100, approving the Fiscal Years 2021/22 and 2022/23 Operating Budget (Vote: 5:0).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: Since 2001, the United States Department of Homeland Security through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critical resources thar are necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. The City was awarded $10,091 from the AFG program to provide skin cancer screenings for Fire Department personnel, which will be performed by a dermatologist, and will supplement the Fire Department's Behavioral Health and Wellness Program. The program provides an annual voluntary physical exam, access to fitness equipment and facilities, and a behavioral health component.
Staff recommends City Council approval of a resolution to accept the Fiscal Year 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant funds and amending the Operating Budget for Fiscal Years 2021/22 and 2022/23.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program requires a funding match equal to ten percent of the awarded amount. The proposed program is estimated to cost $11,100. The grant award is for $10,091 and the City of Vista will be responsible for the remaining $1,009. Sufficient funds are available in the Operating Budget Fire Training account (No. 0010251.521000) to provide the required match amount. City Council approval of the staff recommendation will adjust estimated revenues in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant revenue account (No. 0010028.427002.21284) for the $10,091 in grant funds to be received. Additionally, approval will appropriate the grant funds into the Assistance to Firefighters Grant service contract account (No. 0010290.521040.21284).
ACTION: Approved above recommendation, adopted City Council Resolution No. 2022-150.
