RECOMMENDATION: Appoint a Deputy Mayor for a one-year term.
CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Routine operational item not directly corresponding to a specific City Council goal.
PRIOR ACTION: On December 13, 2021, appointed Councilmember John Franklin to serve as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term (Vote: 5-0).
On December 8, 2020, appointed Councilmember Joe Green to serve as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term (Vote: 5-0).
The appointment of Deputy Mayor occurs annually; see Exhibit 1 for a list of prior appointments.
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: Vista Municipal Code Section 2.16.020 establishes that each year the City Council shall appoint one of its members to serve as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term, commencing on January 1 each year. The Deputy Mayor will serve in the capacity of the Mayor in the event the Mayor is absent or unable to act.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with the staff recommendation.
